And if you’re an introvert, it can seem like a FromSoftware experience. So it’s time to live vicariously by watching anime (as always). These are my top picks for the most extroverted characters that anime money can buy!
20. Bulat
Anime: Akame ga Kill!
Bulat is the one and the only character that can make bro culture seem wholesome.
Even if you’ve just met him yesterday, he’ll give it his all to make you feel welcomed and relaxed.
From sparring sessions to kind words and a contagious laugh, I find it impossible not to love this guy. Even the main character wrote Bulat down as a husbando while basically ignoring all of the waifus around him.
And even I, as a person who doesn’t watch much yaoi content, have to say that I completely agree with his decision. Bulat is a giant hunk pie that will change your life for the better.
He also makes it really difficult to remember that this show is about assassins and that murder is present everywhere.
19. Katarina Claes
Anime: My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Although Katarina was certain that she’d end up as the villain of her story, nothing could’ve been farther from the truth. She literally has the personality of a cupcake. And for the first time ever, I found the harem aspect to be 100% reasonable. Because it genuinely makes sense for everyone to fall in love with her. Even if you’ve just met, she’ll make it her goal to help you overcome any burden that life might have thrown your way. And she’s been so consistent in that regard that she basically seems like a saint.
18. Laurent Thierry
Anime: Great Pretender Laurent is an oddball on this list, as he’s definitely not wholesome. He’s a manipulative dude that likes to watch the people around him dance upon his strings. But you can’t get that type of influence by just keeping to yourself. Laurent has an electric charisma that’s capable of attracting just about anyone. You’d be stealing his wallet one second, and then following him to a different country in the next – he’s just that good. And when he’s on a mission, it’s fascinating to watch how quickly he turns every stranger that walks his way into an unwilling accomplice. He’s not the nicest dude around but he definitely has some skills.
17. Asta
Anime: Black Clover
Pretty much all shounen protagonists are extroverts, so I’ll try not to overwhelm you with too many.
But Asta is just too outgoing not to be on here.
My dude has proposed so many times that his passionate screams became like church bells in his village. And regardless of how many times he’s shot down, he just dusts himself off and tries again.
His approach to everyday life is no different either, as he’ll use every opportunity to tell everyone about his dreams. And if no one is there to listen, he’ll just scream it at the sky.
There’s lots of screaming involved in general. But you have to give him some credit: he’s the heart of not only his squad, but the entire Clover Kingdom.
16. Shinji Tokita and Ryuujirou Kotobuki
Anime: Grand Blue If you’re tired of watching high school anime and want something that’s more relevant to you – Grand Blue is the place to be. Its story is based in college, and it has just as much drinking as you’d expect. And at the forefront of the liver abuse are these two bros, Shinji and Ryuujirou. They’re doing their best to truly live life – partying hard, putting their all into their hobbies, and making as many friends as possible. From the wild parties to the surprisingly human moments that they share with the rest of the cast, these two are as extroverted as they come. And I love them both.
15. Senku
Anime: Dr. Stone In almost any form of media, scientists are depicted as introverts. They keep to themselves and only ever enjoy the company of their books. But then there’s Senku. My dude has unwavering self-confidence that’s as key to his survival as his massive IQ. He’s fully prepared to enter a village and become the leader within a week. And he doesn’t do this through force but rather through charisma and ingenuity. He knows what people want and sets himself up as the best way to get it. He’s completely transparent about it and even ends up being a close friend to everyone involved. So, producers, take notes and give us more Chad scientists!
14. Osamu Dazai
Anime: Bungo Stray Dogs Although his name would have you expecting a rather depressed and introverted character, Dazai is quite the opposite. I mean, he does still try to off himself every ten minutes or so, but he does it in a rather cheerful way. Leaving the absurdity of that last sentence behind, we can see how essential Dazai is to his group. He lifts everyone up and gives the group a sense of identity that I don’t think they could’ve achieved otherwise. No matter how strong the enemy, you can always count on Dazai to crack a clever remark and make it seem a bit less daunting.
13. Riki Nendou
Anime: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Nendou is one of my all-time favorite characters, and here’s why: he just has a heart of gold. Although he’s depicted as being quite stupid, very few characters can cheer you up as quickly as Nendou. He’s willing to accept just about anyone, never forces anything onto you, and genuinely lets you know that he appreciates your presence. Sure, he usually does it by asking you whether you want ramen, but the thought is still there! This is why even though he isn’t as popular as Hairo, I find him to be way more likable and outgoing. Nendou doesn’t keep anything to himself and wears his heart on his sleeve like a badge of honor. God, I just love this character so much!
12. Naru Kotoishi
Anime: Barakamon Naru is one of those characters that almost make you want to have children. Almost. Jokes aside, she’s a ray of sunshine and I love her to death. She’s made everyone’s happiness her personal business. And you best believe that she’s going to stick to you until all the bad vibes go away. She doesn’t care what you might think or how many times you might throw her out – she’s impervious to any type of rejection. This is a blessing because we could all honestly use a Naru in our lives.
11. Mei Hatsume
Anime: My Hero Academia I’m pretty sure that almost any person on earth could become a millionaire if they just adopted Mei’s mindset. She doesn’t do the grind, she IS the grind. And she’s not going to allow for any type of awkwardness to stifle her work. She’ll get up-close and personal if you show the slightest interest in her work. And she’s fully capable of giving a live presentation in front of millions without batting an eye. In fact, she’s so confident that you really have to question whether she even understands the concept of awkwardness. We stan a confident science queen.
10. Louis
Anime: Beastars
Time to switch things up once again, as we look towards a character who isn’t exactly jumping with joy and seeing rainbows everywhere.
Louis has something to prove to the world and to himself, but achieving this goal requires a stage. So he works day and night to become a symbol of his species.
Every day there’s a spotlight on him and he’s absolutely thriving. He knows how to gain the respect of everyone in the room, and he’d sooner die than admit defeat.
Granted, not the friendliest dude around.
But if you can handle that type of social pressure constantly, you’re a super extrovert in my books.
9. Naruto Uzumaki
Anime: Naruto We all like to clown on Naruto and his talk no Jutsu. But it honestly takes a lot of skill to pull something like that off. It also takes a level of extroversion that I’m not ready to even imagine. Like seriously – how can you be in a life or death battle and still find the time to think “I wonder what made this person evil. How can I help?”? And although we know that he was a loner growing up, his character was definitely not the issue. My dude was out here screaming his lungs off, ready to pall up with anyone who comes within earshot of him.
8. Kafuka Fuura
Anime: Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei Kafuka is the most optimistic person that can exist. Even the darkest of situations don’t faze her as she’ll always find a way to see the silver lining and ease the tension. Is her optimism extremely concerning sometimes? Yes. But has she shown the slightest sign of shyness or introversion in her entire life? Hell no. You could have a gun to your head and Kafuka will walk up and do her best to befriend you. It’s honestly fascinating. It’s also bound to really mess with your head (and tear ducts) if you read the manga.
7. Koro-Sensei
Anime: Assassination Classroom In Koro-Sensei’s initial life, he had that superficial charm that made getting close to his target very easy. He could woo you with just a few words, but kept to himself for the most part. But the new Koro-Sensei is quite different. He puts his entire soul into befriending and teaching his students. In fact, he’s so committed that he won’t rest if there’s a single issue that one of his precious students is struggling with. He’s also just a genuinely goofy and kind-hearted character that’s impossible not to love. Even though the whole concept of the show is that he’s the villain, he’s the most beloved dude around.
6. Tohru
Anime: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
Tohru is the type of extrovert that just chooses a person and makes them their life-long best friend.
It took only one drunken conversation with Kobayashi for Tohru to devote her life to her.
But it’s not like she only cares for Kobayashi. We quickly see that she made friends with everyone in her district, as she saw every shopping trip as an opportunity to chat with some interesting people.
Add to all of this the fact that she also befriends all of the dragons she meets (regardless of which faction they are a part of), and you have quite the social giant on your hands.
5. Tamaki Suou
Anime: Ouran High School Host Club If you’re going to run a host club, being an extrovert is kind of a must. With girls coming through every day, saying that Tamaki is adept at social interactions would be an understatement. He genuinely loves his craft and tries to make every girl feel like a queen. Sure, he’s a narcissist and can be out of touch from time to time. But there’s never any ill intent behind his words. He’s just a flamboyant dude who wanted to perform and built himself a stage for that exact purpose. He wants everyone to pay attention to him and thrives while interacting with his peers.
4. Isaac Dian and Miria Harvent
Anime: Baccano! This dastardly duo is the goofiest pair you’ll see in your life. They’re so whacky and yet confident that you honestly can’t tell whether they’re dim or absolute geniuses. Shyness is not an emotion that they can comprehend (much less exhibit) as they’re one hundred percent ready to make you their bestie after a two-minute chat. But most of all, they just love spending time with each other. You get the feeling that they’ve never spent any time apart – and it’s honestly wholesome beyond belief.
3. Haruhi Suzumiya
Anime: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya If you know the concept of the show, you know why Haruhi being an extrovert was kind of a must. Otherwise, humanity would probably be replaced by a race of sentient books. Haruhi is almost aggressively confident, as she’ll get in your face and speak her mind regardless of whether you know her or not. Does she go overboard sometimes? Absolutely. But you can’t deny that she believes in herself completely. Talk about religious zeal!
2. Mako Mankanshoku
Anime: Kill la Kill I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – Mako is one of the most lovable characters anime has to offer. She’s such a kind-hearted goof that even the antagonists tend to care for her after some time. That’s mostly due to the fact that she’s just unapologetically herself. She never pretends to be someone she’s not (except in that one episode) and she wears her heart on her sleeve. If she cares for you, you’ll know it. Hell, she’ll adopt you and make you part of her own family if she sees that you have nowhere else to go. A literal saint and one of the funniest characters that I’ve ever seen.
1. Kamina
Anime: Gurren Lagann I think that Kamina is one of the most iconic anime characters ever designed. Even though he didn’t get that much screen time, he’s just the type of dude that you never fully forget about. He’s loud, optimistic, and constantly pumping with enough energy to power a small country. And when it comes to his friends, he’ll always make it his top priority to lift them up. He genuinely has some of the most goosebump-inducing motivational speeches I’ve ever heard. And his iconic glasses are bound to remain in the anime mythos for quite a few decades to come.
